In fact, because many hunters rarely use these whistles, they are especially effective on pintails, wigeon, and teal in mallard country. The Underrated Pintail WhistleĮven in areas where mallards are dominant, pintails generally respond best to their own trilling whistles. Indeed, the average duck call is an amazingly adaptable instrument. You can even use a mallard call to simulate the monotone quack of a gadwall by blowing short, soft notes while cupping your fingers over the end of your call. Also, when diving ducks fail to respond to his calling, Cooksey will trill his tongue to mimic the staccato grunts made by canvasbacks, scaup, and ring-necked ducks.

He draws out the first note of a standard mallard greeting call and follows with a series of short, sharp notes. Whenever a sharp greeting call fails to turn a flock of teal, my friend Bill Cooksey uses his mallard call to imitate the high-pitched sounds of a greenwing hen. But the versatility of the mallard call does not stop there. The standard mallard call is capable of imitating almost any sound a mallard hen makes, and because it can be blown sharply and loudly it's a wonderful tool for grabbing the attention of virtually any passing duck even on the windiest days.
Or to keep it simple, you can just buy a pintail whistle to complement your favorite mallard call. If you are dedicated to mastering these species-specific sounds, you will find that there are calls available for almost every duck you can hunt. But while those other species will often respond to a mallard call, they react most favorably to the sounds of their own kind. Truth be told, mallard hen calls are amazingly effective at drawing in almost any species of duck. So why do most duck hunters have only one call on their lanyard? While many waterfowlers focus their attention on mallards, other puddle ducks and divers often make up a considerable portion of our season's bag. Real life sharks rarely attack humans deliberately, instead mistaking swimmers for injured seals, which are their prey.Despite its in-game behavior, orcas are mainly docile animals and do not attack humans, unless provoked.In real life, orcas are not actually related to sharks at all, but are a type of dolphin.This kills the Sharks without risk to the player and keeps the items from being destroyed. An easy way to farm Sharks is to place Shark Statues over one bucket of lava stretched over a twelve block space, and activating the statue with a 1 Second Timer.If the player is lacking proper swim gear or a Neptune's Shell, a stack of Gills Potions may come in handy for this approach. The player can then attack with impunity. A similar method is to stay on the Ocean floor, dig a small pit in the sand, and build a shield above the player but not connected to the ground, leaving a one-tile gap.Use an arcing ranged or Flamelash-type weapon to fire around the shield, or a Vilethorn to fire through the shield. Add a shield of blocks in front of the player to one tile above the water's surface. To safely and easily hunt sharks, construct a spot to stand on, but remain half-inside water.The Flipper accessory will keep the player from sinking to the bottom. Using a Water Walking Potion or Water Walking Boots to stand at the surface and dive slightly down periodically, the player can attract Sharks to within striking distance while staying safe.Because of their extremely fast attack rate and their Autoswing feature, the Arkhalis and Terragrim are quite useful when dealing with Sharks. Autoswing weapons are also effective against sharks as long as they have decent knockback. Rapid-fire weapons, flails, and multi-attack weapons (such as the Swordfish or the Boomstick ) tend to be effective against Sharks.They are highly resistant to knockback, but strong weapons will usually at least halt their advance. Sharks charge the player and can move quicker than most players.
